Keanu Revisits the Bard and Don John
Every
year the Los Angeles Shakespeare Center holds a unique all-star annual reading
of a Shakespeare comedy to help raise money for the organization. This
year the production was Much Ado About Nothing and Keanu Reeves was on
hand to read for the character Don John (reprising the role he played in Kenneth
Branagh's film version of the play.) Also included in the incredible
all-star cast were husband and wife Tom Hank and Rita Wilson (who led the
production and played Dogberry and Margaret respectively), Bronson Pinchot (as
Borachio), Jackson Browne (who performed live music and read for Balthasar),
Dana Carvey (as Verges), Helen Hunt (as Beatrice), Ewan McGregor (as Benedick),
Michael McKean (as Conrade), Julia Roberts (as Ursula), Martin Sheen (as Leonato)
and Brent Spiner (as Don Pedro.) Truly a most outstanding cast for a

Wanna See the Missing Scenes from Bogus
Journey?
Now you can let the "powers-that-be" know!
The most dedicated and determined Joe dude has decided to let the world know that he, along with many many other Bill & Ted fans, would like to see how Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey was originally made to be seen! As we well know, many scenes from the original movie were omitted at the last minute because they were deemed "too scary for kids." But these scenes really tied the plot of the film together and without them, while we're left with a very entertaining and excellent film, we're left feeling somehow heinously unfulfilled. If you feel the same way and would like to encourage those who may have the missing footage to step forward and release it on DVD in a special edition release of the movie, then you should join the outstanding Facebook group which Joe has started! Excellent!

Keanu Asked About Third B&T at Oscars
As skyninger42 informed us on our Forums, MTV's Josh Horowitz cornered Keanu Reeves at the Oscars and posed the question at the forefront of fans minds . . . if they could green light the third Bill & Ted movie right then and there. Keanu replied, "I'm trying!" to which Josh said with surprise, "Are you really?" "Sure," Keanu smiled in his enigmatic way. Josh Horowitz laughed that he couldn't tell if Keanu was joking or not and Keanu said, "I'm not." Now we know that Keanu and Alex used to joke about doing a middle-aged version of Bill & Ted, and both have indicated that a third Bill & Ted wouldn't be out of the question at some point. Ed and Chris also indicated on the special extra disc in the DVD box set that they wouldn't be opposed to doing a third Bill & Ted movie. But still a lot of elements have to be right for it to happen, but this would indicate that there's still hope!

San Dimas Turns 50 in a Most Excellent Way!
San Dimas, that most excellent suburb in east Los Angeles county, kicked off a muy bueno fiesta celebration this past week to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their incorporation on June 28, 1960. This year-long celebration has been dubbed, most appropriately, "An Excellent Adventure," as a nod toward the Bill & Ted movies which have brought attention to the city for the past 21 years. For many years our fan club's P.O. Box was located in San Dimas, which entailed a forty mile round-trip drive from North Hollywood to pick up the mail once a week or so. But going to San Dimas and seeing the Circle K across the street (even though the movies weren't actually filmed there) was always a lot of fun, so we have very fond memories of the place. And we'd like to add our birthday greetings as well, and wish the city a most outstanding birthday!

What's Alex Watching and Listening To?
Although this video was posted on Amoeba Music's website back in July, we've just learned about it (thanks to the most excellent Richard dude!) and found it too good not to share! Alex Winter stops by Amoeba Music and consents to doing a "What's in My Bag?" video segment to talk about his day's selection of movies and music. A most excellent bit of insight into Alex's likes!

Ed
and Chris Together Again - Imagine That!
We were very excited when we heard a while ago that Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson had written a new movie screenplay! It had been seventeen years since Bill & Ted fans had been treated to a movie written by the pair (their last collaborative effort being the quirky but hilarious Mom and Dad Save the World). Next Friday (June 12th) sees the opening of that film titled Imagine That, which stars Eddie Murphy and is directed by Karey Kirkpatrick (Over the Hedge). The fantasy / comedy revolves around Murphy's character, a financial executive facing imminent career failure. As a father, he's already been a bit of a failure, ignoring his seven-year-old daughter. But when he starts paying more attention to the child and her fantasy world, things magically seem to start turning around for him. This looks like a very fun and creative film from our two favorite screenwriters! Not bad!!

showing of Freaked in Los Angeles on May 16!
Many thanks to the most outstanding dude1987 for pointing out on the Forums that Alex Winter and Tom Stern are scheduled to make an appearance at a special May 16th midnight screening of their comedy classic Freaked at the New Beverly Cinema located on West Beverly Blvd. one block west of La Brea in Los Angeles. This is the first we've heard of this appearance, but if you live in the L.A. area you may want to attend! Please note that the website states Alex and Tom's appearance are "schedule permitting," so there's a possibility they may not be able to attend. But what a great opportunity to get together with a bunch of fans and enjoy this wild cult classic with an appreciative audience, which is really the best way in the world to see Freaked!

The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize
Celebrating George
Carlin to air on PBS
Last year, George Carlin was posthumously awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in a ceremony which took place last November at The Kennedy Center. The tribute will finally be aired on local PBS stations starting February 4th at 9:00 p.m.. Fellow comedians Bill Maher, Denis Leary, Garry Shandling, Joan Rivers, Jon Stewart, Lewis Black, Lily Tomlin, Margaret Cho and Richard Belzer were all present to share their thoughts on George, using appropriate swear words (which we assume PBS will ironically excise). George has also been featured recently on a new PBS series entitled Make 'em Laugh in the episode entitled "When I'm Bad, I'm Better: The Groundbreakers." He has also appeared throughout the series, commenting on other comedians. It somehow seems very fitting that George is being remembered so fondly right around the twentieth anniversary of Excellent Adventure.

It's Not Christmas Without Hal!
Regular visitors to this site will be aware that we always associate Christmas with Hal Landon, Jr. because of his portrayal as the misanthropic Ebenezer Scrooge in South Coast Repertory's annual production of A Christmas Carol. Well, now fans can also enjoy the philanthropic version of Hal Landon, Jr. in a new Christmas classic (of sorts). In the recent Christmas-themed episode of My Name is Earl, Hal Landon, Jr. played the benevolent Mr. Hill, whom Earl and Joy once ripped off for $100. Earl finds out that not only Joy has continued to con the kindly old man but that others in the trailer park have also been regularly ripping him off as well! Earl sets out to make things right in this very funny episode of the series which will undoubtedly become an annual "must see" Christmas episode for fans of the show and of Hal!

Keanu
Not Up to Speed III . . . but maybe B&T?
Many thanks to sharp-eyed fans who alerted us to recent stories online in which Keanu is said to have debunked rumors of doing a third installment of the action movie Speed (as you'll remember, Keanu didn't even appear in the less-than-stellar sequel.) The stories all seem to stem from one story on IGN.com, which was in response to a story on Aintitcool.com. IGN must have asked Keanu about the possibility of doing another Bill & Ted movie at the same time, to which Keanu was much more positive, repeating how funny it would be to do a movie with Bill & Ted as middle-aged men (something he and Alex joked about way back while Bogus Journey was being promoted). This has begun another spate of B&T III rumors on the internet, but mostly fans are just happy to hear Keanu personally dispel the earlier rumors of not ever wanting to do another Bill & Ted, which we knew simply wasn't true.
Of the course the more topical remake news of the day is the December 12th release of Keanu's new movie, a remake of the classic sci-fi film The Day the Earth Stood Still. Not only can you catch it at your local cineplex, but it will also be shown at IMAX theaters! Now you can see Keanu and Gort even larger-than-larger-than-life! Not bad!! Of course, what we really want is a third Bill & Ted starring Keanu and Alex . . . the day that happens may really be the day the earth stands still!

'Tis
the Season to be Grumpy . . .
Are you in the mood for figgy pudding and Christmas goose? Or are you in the mood to tell charitable solicitors to go away? Either way, you're most definitely in the mood for this year's production of A Christmas Carol as presented by the South Coast Repertory in Orange County, California. This is the 29th staging of the annual musical, which has become a staple for many holiday revelers in Southern California. Hal Landon, Jr. has been playing Ebenezer Scrooge in the production ever since it began in 1980, not missing one season of the show! His portrayal of Charles Dickens' curmedgeonly miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, is classic. If you've never had a chance to see the play and will be in or near Orange County over the holidays, do yourself a favor and catch this show! It's guaranteed to melt even the coldest of hearts and give you a healthy shot of Christmas cheer!

Give
us the Details on Keanu
Details magazine will release their Christmas issue this coming week and one most excellent dude graces its cover! The magazine includes an in-depth article about Keanu, focusing on a trip to the book store. Think Keanu isn't smart? How many people can say they've read ALL of Remembrance of Things Past? (Heck, how many people can say they've read ANY of Remembrance of Things Past?) You can read the article by Jeff Gordinier at the website link below, accompanied by some embedded YouTube videos of clips of Keanu's movies over the years. But if you want Keanu on your coffee table all the time (and who wouldn't?) then pick up a copy of the magazine when it hits the news stands next week! And of course don't forget to see Keanu's new movie, a remake of the sci-fi classic The Day the Earth Stood Still when it comes out in December!

Bill & Ted Hit the Bookshelves
Bill & Ted have
undoubtedly become part of the public consciousness in so many ways, and this is
even more evident when the Two Great Ones pop up between the pages of nostalgic
tomes such as the two books we're going to tell you about now. First up is
Chasing the Eighties, the story of the ultimate travel adventure in which
British author Spencer Austin and his buddies made the ultimate trip back in
time (figuratively, at least) and toured North America in search of movie
locations for some of the iconic movies and television shows of the
1980's. Included in their itinerary was a stop at Sunsplash Golfland in
Arizona where the scenes with Napoleon on the waterslides was filmed.
Their entire three month tour was chronicled in a hilarious book, which is now
available for sale. This is a must for anyone who was a media child of the
eighties or just loves kitschy nostalgia trips! You can also relive the
fun on their outstanding
website which includes video clips of some of their
excellent adventures!
Ever wondered who would be most triumphant in a smack-down between Han Solo and Indiana Jones? Muhammed Ali vs. Bruce Lee? Michael Corleone vs. Tony Montana? Well, author Jake Kalish attempts to answer these questions and speculates on the outcomes of many more imaginary showdowns in his book, Santa vs. Satan: The Official Compendium of Imaginary Fights. Included amidst the epic battles is Bill & Ted vs. Marty McFly and Doc. Who will emerge the victor? Jake even consulted with experts on the various subjects of his book to deduce a logical outcome, and did consult with this website's webmistress for input on this particular fight. If you've ever played "imaginary smackdown scenarios" through in your mind or with friends, this book is most definitely for you!

Microgaming have created a most outstanding reel slot machine for use in online
casinos, and gamblers across the Internet our now spinning their reels to the
images and sounds from Excellent Adventure. The three-reel, five-payline
game is currently available to play at various online casinos (U.S. residents
can often play demos for free but cannot play for real money). For
instant, at Ladbrokes Casino you can download a free demo and play the game for

the five paylines, and once the reels have stopped and the paylines tally, the
winning panels disappear and new panels drop down, giving you a second chance to

Alex Winter Rocks On!
The most excellent Nathaniel dude on the Forums alerted us to this story from Slashfilm.com! Apparently Alex Winter has been hired by radio jock shock Howard Stern to pen a new version of the classic cult rock flick Rock n' Roll High School. Stern apparently has acquired the rights to remake a set of films, including Porky's. Whether or not anything will come of this remains to be seen, but if anyone can do justice to Roger Corman's original showcase for The Ramones, Alex would be the person (although it might possibly end up showcasing more midgets, chimpanzees and flatuating clowns.)
Alex was also remembered this week as part of Moviefone's Where Are They Now? look at The Lost Boys. The website's retrospective includes photos of the cast then and now, including Alex. Not bad!

What will we do without Rufus??
It's with a sad heart that we report the passing of comedian, author and actor George Carlin. He passed away on June 22nd of heart failure in Santa Monica, California at the age of 71. Carlin was an icon of stand-up comedy, breaking many barriers and pushing the boundaries, always with humor aforethought but making many valid social comments along the way. A thinking-man's comedian, Carlin was much more than just the spewer of dirty words. Foul language was a tool, not a crutch. He was a master of language, able to deliver amazingly fast-paced brilliance with sharp and biting wit. In fact, it was announced just the other day that he was to be awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor this November. To Bill & Ted fans, he will forever be Rufus . . . the most super cool dude from the future who not only was entrusted as the one to keep Bill & Ted on the correct path but became their most excellent friend and was undoubtedly their biggest fan as well. The world will be a sadder place without our mentor. We will miss you greatly.

Keanu
talks about Alex and
Bill & Ted on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Keanu Reeves has been making the rounds on the talk show circuit this week to promote his new film, Street Kings, which co-stars Forrest Whitaker, Hugh Laurie, The Game, Common and Chris Evans. On April 12th, Keanu visited Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Jimmy brought up the fact that Alex Winter has worked on the show previously as a segment director.
The beginning of Keanu's interview was taken up with talk of Alex and Bill & Ted, as Jimmy related that Alex had said he and Keanu were very close friends, which Keanu confirmed. Keanu noted that Alex is "a little demented . . . but in a good way." Jimmy asked Keanu about a story Alex had once shared about a particular Halloween night in which the two were having dinner and found themselves in the midst of costumed revelers. Keanu shared the story, which we've heard previously but Keanu's telling was particularly amusing. Jimmy then surprised Keanu by producing a box of Bill & Ted cereal, then amazed everyone by actually sampling some!

The first-ever Bill & Ted's Excellent
Adventure
Quote-Along to take place in Austin, TX!
We've just learned this most excellent news that on Thursday, April 10th and Thursday, April 17th, some totally excellent personages will be holding a most unprecedented event at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Austin, Texas! The first-ever Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure Quote-Along! Dudes, if you are anywhere near Austin on these dates, you will most definitely want to attend this screening! According to the show's organizer, the non-heinous Henri, they will be subtitling their favorite lines from the film (which we understand is practically ALL of them!) and encouraging audience members to shout out the dialogue with the characters on the screen (like we totally don't do that at home already, right?) Not only that, but Dipping Dots will be served during Napoleon's classic Ziggy Piggy scene, and all attendees receive an inflatable air guitar so they can rock along with the Two Great Ones! A historical characters costume contest will also be held before the screening. Not bad!

Straight-to-DVD Bill & Ted film scrapped . . . or is it?
Last summer we reported that plans were in the works for a straight-to-DVD Bill & Ted remake of sorts. Our most excellent friend, Rich dude, recently checked into this again for us and found some contact information for the production company. When he asked them about the status of the project, he was basically told the idea had been dropped and they were no longer pursuing it. While that doesn't mean the project may not be shopped around to other production companies, the way we understand it at this point is the project is no longer in the works.
But hold the phone booth! Paul dude let us know that this very week Moviehole is reporting that there WILL be a remake, and even has details from the updated script? According to the website, Bill & Ted are no longer known as Wyld Stallyns, but as Atomic Gorillas (not even misspelled?) and that there are less "Whoa's" and references have been updated to include "The Dark Knight." No writer is mentioned, no production company is mentioned . . . nothing of any substantive value is mentioned. This may very well have been the script the above company had considered doing, in which case . . . we're glad they dropped the idea! If Moviehole's article had been posted on April 1st, I would have completely taken it as an April Fool's joke. As it is, only time will tell if this script is seriously being considered by any other production company at this point.
