Keanu
talks about Alex and
Bill & Ted on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Keanu Reeves has been making the rounds on the talk show circuit this week to promote his new film, Street Kings, which co-stars Forrest Whitaker, Hugh Laurie, The Game, Common and Chris Evans. On April 12th, Keanu visited Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Jimmy brought up the fact that Alex Winter has worked on the show previously as a segment director.
The beginning of Keanu's interview was taken up with talk of Alex and Bill & Ted, as Jimmy related that Alex had said he and Keanu were very close friends, which Keanu confirmed. Keanu noted that Alex is "a little demented . . . but in a good way." Jimmy asked Keanu about a story Alex had once shared about a particular Halloween night in which the two were having dinner and found themselves in the midst of costumed revelers. Keanu shared the story, which we've heard previously but Keanu's telling was particularly amusing. Jimmy then surprised Keanu by producing a box of Bill & Ted cereal, then amazed everyone by actually sampling some!
You can view this opening interview segment in our Video Theater this week! Excellent!!

The first-ever Bill & Ted's Excellent
Adventure
Quote-Along to take place in Austin, TX!
We've just learned this most excellent news that on Thursday, April 10th and Thursday, April 17th, some totally excellent personages will be holding a most unprecedented event at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Austin, Texas! The first-ever Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure Quote-Along! Dudes, if you are anywhere near Austin on these dates, you will most definitely want to attend this screening! According to the show's organizer, the non-heinous Henri, they will be subtitling their favorite lines from the film (which we understand is practically ALL of them!) and encouraging audience members to shout out the dialogue with the characters on the screen (like we totally don't do that at home already, right?) Not only that, but Dipping Dots will be served during Napoleon's classic Ziggy Piggy scene, and all attendees receive an inflatable air guitar so they can rock along with the Two Great Ones! A historical characters costume contest will also be held before the screening. Not bad!
If you would like to attend this event or want more information, click here!

Straight-to-DVD Bill & Ted film scrapped . . . or is it?
Last summer we reported that plans were in the works for a straight-to-DVD Bill & Ted remake of sorts. Our most excellent friend, Rich dude, recently checked into this again for us and found some contact information for the production company. When he asked them about the status of the project, he was basically told the idea had been dropped and they were no longer pursuing it. While that doesn't mean the project may not be shopped around to other production companies, the way we understand it at this point is the project is no longer in the works.
But hold the phone booth! Paul dude let us know that this very week Moviehole is reporting that there WILL be a remake, and even has details from the updated script? According to the website, Bill & Ted are no longer known as Wyld Stallyns, but as Atomic Gorillas (not even misspelled?) and that there are less "Whoa's" and references have been updated to include "The Dark Knight." No writer is mentioned, no production company is mentioned . . . nothing of any substantive value is mentioned. This may very well have been the script the above company had considered doing, in which case . . . we're glad they dropped the idea! If Moviehole's article had been posted on April 1st, I would have completely taken it as an April Fool's joke. As it is, only time will tell if this script is seriously being considered by any other production company at this point.

Who says Christmas is Bah, Humbug?
Hal Landon, Jr. does, that's
who! In fact he has said it every year for the past 28 years in the role
of Ebenezer Scrooge in South Coast Repertory's annual production of A
Christmas Carol, a perennial favorite for those living in and around Orange
County, California! And this year is no exception! Our favorite
stage and film curmudgeon will be treading the board as Dickens' grouchy
protagonist again this holiday season and as we say every year if you haven't
seen this wonderful production and have the chance to then by all means don't
miss out again! This year the SCR website has some really wonderful bonus
material, including a slideshow and even video clips, including an interview
with Hal Landon, Jr. and director John David-Keller. It just wouldn't be
Christmas without Dickens, so treat yourself to this wonderful show!
And as Tiny Tim would say, "God bless us, every one!" (translation . .
. be excellent to each other!)

Alex Behind the Scenes of Ben 10 movie!
Alex Winter continues working behind the camera and his latest directorial project was the live-action movie version of Cartoon Network's popular animated Ben 10 series. The series follows the adventures of 10-year-old Ben Tennyson who discovers a mysterious watch-like device which gives him the power to morph into ten different alien heroes, each with unique super abilities.
The
live action movie, entitled Ben 10: Race Against Time, debuts Wednesday
November 21st at 8:00p.m. on Cartoon Network. Alex not only directed the
film but acted as executive producer as well! According to TV Guide,
Alex's eight-year-old son happens to be a fan of the series, so Alex listened
carefully to the input from his son and also his son's second grade class:
"They made sure I didn't mess up their favorite TV show." Alex
also had to make some tough decisions regarding special effects and the film's
budget. "I didn't want to have 10 to 15 crummy-looking aliens.
I would rather have really fantastic-looking aliens."
Starring in the film are Graham Phillips as Ben Tennyson, Haley Ramm as Gwen, Lee Majors as Grandpa Max and Christien Anholt as the evil Eon.

David Newman Rocks, Dude!!!
The most excellent Hans dude recently alerted us to the fact that the soundtrack score from Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, composed and conducted by David Newman (composer of many outstanding film scores), has been released officially on CD by Intrada Records! We sent off immediately for our own copy to check it out, and faster than we could say non-non-non-non-non-non-non-NON-excellent (that's good, by the way), our copy was already in the mailbox! And what an outstanding release it is! The CD includes a booklet with lots of non-heinous photos!

This booklet gives an interesting overview of the film with some notable background information thrown in (our only complaint is the use of the terms "stoners" and "surfers" to describe our heroes, neither of which are correct). As for the music itself, the CD sounds as outstanding as it does in the film itself! This music from the movie has been kicked about the internet for some time as a bootleg, but here it is packaged-well, sounding clean and precise and given the respect it deserves. Intrada specializes in releasing movie score soundtracks and their expertise definitely shows with this special collection. Bear in mind this is only the orchestrated background music from the film . . . no excerpts from Steve Vai's work or other metal bands are in this volume. Also keep in mind that this release is being limited to 1,500 copies, so if you want to get one be sure to buy sooner rather than later! If this CD does well maybe Intrada will be convinced to release David Newman's score for Excellent Adventure as well!!!

Making Air Guitar Look So Easy!
Most sincere congratulations to William Ocean for winning this year's U.S. Air Guitar Championship! New York City's Andrew "William Ocean" Litz, whose signature song is Prince's "Let's Go Crazy" and who is also known for a daring (and potentially spine damaging) move called the back-flip beer can crush, was a hot contender for the title in 2006, which ended up going to Hot Lixx Hulahan. Could This Be It? A Sequel (of sorts) at Last?
Over the years there have been
countless rumors about a third Bill & Ted movie being in the works.
It's gotten to the point that with each new rumor we roll our eyes and say
"Not this again!" We've usually been most hopefully when the
talk has supposedly come
from either Alex and Keanu or Bill & Ted creators Ed Solomon and Chris
Matheson. Everything else seemed suspect at best. But now we are
faced with a story published by the L.A. Times, no less, stating that a third
Bill & Ted film is indeed on the drawing board. The fact that the
article names a production company, producer and even the writers makes this
certainly one rumor that already warrants more attention than most. So a
third movie may indeed be in the works!
Now for the bad news . . . this third movie is slated to be a direct-to-DVD release and will NOT star Alex Winter or Keanu Reeves. And, as we've noted, it will not be penned by Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson.
The details are that MGM is developing a "revisiting" (in other words, perhaps, a straight remake of sorts) of Excellent Adventure for release to the DVD market. Slated to produce the film for 360 Pictures Inc. (which released the film Crossover in 2006 and has the movie I Know Who Killed Me coming out at the end of July) is Frank Mancuso, Jr. The L.A. Times further reports that an outline for the film has already been submitted by Gabe Grifoni and Suzanne Francis, who co-wrote the yet-to-be-released 2007 film Wieners. The article does state that the deal with the writers is still being worked out.
What people seem to be picking up and running with from the article is the one line about Keanu's agent discouraging Keanu from making a third Bill & Ted movie. Some reporters are interpreting this to sound like there was going to be a third movie and Keanu's agent is the one who stood in the way of it! I don't know what kind of career advice Keanu's agent gives him, but certainly Keanu can either take or leave advice from his agent, that wouldn't be a deal breaker. Let's not forget that Keanu's manager produced the original Bill & Ted films! So that's probably the least credible part of the story (note: that is solely this editor's personal opinion).
Now normally we don't give much credence to third movie rumors when nothing is actually in production, but this one is already making enough of a buzz in two days to be noticed and commented upon. We will be waiting and watching for further developments and if we find out any more about it we will be sure to report on it here! Many thanks to Thomas dude for first bringing this story to our attention, and thanks to everyone else who has contacted us about it!

Most appreciative thanks to
j_sundude on our B&T forums for letting us know about this! Page 26 of

Now You, Too, Can Be An Air Guitar Star!
Our
thanks to Keanuweb for
this scoop on the latest in air guitar technology from Japan! Ever wished
you could actually produce your own air guitar sounds like Bill & Ted?
Now it's possible, with the Air Guitar Pro! Although technically it takes
a little of the "air" out of air guitar, this new toy from TakaraTomy
is an electronic wonder. Imagine the top of the guitar neck and you have
the picture . . . that's all you need! As you press your fingers on the
chord buttons found on the handheld device and strum your fingers in all your
air guitar glory, infrared sensors pick up the movements of your strumming and
play the music! Comes with a built in speaker but can be attached to an
external amplifier. Also comes with ten songs to play along with.

Death
Takes a Holiday . . . er, um, we mean to
say William Sadler co-stars in ABC's Traveler.
Many thanks to the outstanding Nathaniel for letting us know on the Bill and Ted forum about William Sadler being in the cast of ABC's new action series Traveler. A complex ongoing drama in the spirit of 24, Traveler follows the story of three grad school students embarking on a cross-country road trip when something unspeakable happens . . . and two of the friends find themselves unwilling pawns in the third friend's doings. Wanted by the FBI and unable to prove their friend, Will Traveler, even existed, Jay Burchell and Tyler Fog must elude the authorities while trying to solve the mystery of their enigmatic "friend." William Sadler plays Carlton Fog, Tyler's father. Reviews and word of mouth on this series seems very good so far, so be sure to check it out!

Excellent Adventure to Hit the (or at
least *a*)
Big Screen Again!
Anyone who's lived in or around
Hollywood, California, are familiar with the geodesic movie theater on Sunset
Blvd. near Vine built in 1963 called the
Cinerama Dome (now a part of Arclight Cinemas). What better place to see Bill
& Ted's Excellent Adventure where the future was a most outstanding
geodesic dome shape as well! Are the fates at play, or have Bill & Ted
met the future? A most outstanding Steven alerted us to the fact that Excellent
Adventure will be playing at the Cinerama Dome at 8:00 p.m. on April 2nd.
This movie is being shown as part of the theater's 21+ series in which adults
are allowed to imbibe while watching films (that means drinking alcoholic
beverages). Of course this means attendance is restricted to moviegoers 21
years or older (I.D. required). If anyone in the L.A. area plans on going
drop us an e-mail to see if we
can't hook up and get some of the fans together!

Alex Winter Brings Freekland Up to Date!
The most excellent personages that are (is) Freekland.com have posted a new Q&A with Alex Winter in which he talks about his current projects, acting on Bones and NON-projects including a 3rd Bill and Ted film . . . "Unlike my screen doppelganger (Bill) I have no interest in time travel.") To read the entire interview, visit Freekland by clicking here.
In other news, Alex is providing one of the voices for the new Adult Swim series Saul of the Mole Men, directed by Alex's long-time filmmaking buddy Tom Stern. Alex Winter Makes a Dramatic
Return to Acting in Fox Series Bones
It's
been a while since Alex Winter has stepped in front of the camera to perform as
an actor (his last notable role was in his own collaborative effort with Tom
Stern, Freaked, although he did make a brief cameo appearance a la
Hitchcock in his moody masterpiece Fever) but his guest appearance on the
forensic investigation series Bones on the Fox Network proved Alex can
still turn in a truly excellent performance on screen as well as behind the
camera. On the February 7th episode entitled The Girl in the Gator,
Alex played Monte Gold, "internet kingpin and aspiring Hugh
Hefner." Monte is head honcho of the internet site and video empire
"Hotty Student Body," a take-off on the real-life Girls Gone Wild
franchise in which producers target college girls for cheap sex thrill videos
(usually involving the girls pulling up their tops to show their breasts while
drunk). When a college girl on spring break turns up dead in the stomach
of an alligator Monte is one of the main suspects after the investigating team
finds out the girl can be seen on the Hotty Student Body website. Alex
plays the sleazy Monte Gold to perfection, covering his butt legally and doing
everything he can to put the investigating team off his tail to protect himself
and his goldmine website. Let's hope Alex will return to acting more
frequently so we can see more great performances like this one!
Fox on Demand allows free viewing of the
latest episodes of their shows online.
The Girl in the Gator will probably be available for a week or so, so it
you would like to watch this episode online click

Bill & Ted . . . Together Again?
Well, at least Alex and Keanu were!
Okay, let's face it . . . Britain's rag mag News of the Sun isn't exactly our favorite source of information in the world, but when the most outstandingly awesome Nicolette, creator of An Alex Winter Fansite, brought this particular photo to our attention, well what can we say? The idea of Alex and Keanu hanging out together again just warms our cockles . . . whatever those are. A third movie in the works? Well that's a pretty big supposition, but one can always hope!
Update: This photo can be found currently
in the U.S. in the January 22, 2007 issue of In
Touch magazine!
According to In Touch, Keanu and Alex had dinner together at Koi restaurant in
L.A. on January 6th.

What's the best (fictitious) band in movie
history? Need you ask???
Recently the most excellent and outstanding Mikey MiGo wrote an article for 411mania.com outlining his 15 favorite fictitious movie bands of all time! And what band did this long-time Bill & Ted fan list as his number-one all-time best-ever movie band? Drumroll please! Okay, no surprise here . . . Wyld Stallyns was firmly seated at #1!!! Not bad! Best of all is Mikey MiGo's really wonderful write-up about WHY Wyld Stallyns is his favorite fic band, beating out such celluloid superstars as The Blues Brothers, Spinal Tap and even Hedwig and the Angry Inch. It's always nice to see in black and white the true feelings of a Bill & Ted fan, and MiGo's prose is sheer poetry to those of us who understand his passion for Bill & Ted.

The
End of an Era . . . and the
Beginning of Another
Last week saw the end of an era in San Diego County
when the very last of the original Farrell's Ice Cream Parlours closed their
doors for the last time in Mira Mesa, California, with the fixtures and items
inside being sold at auction. The establishment, which had been operating
since 1968, was the last of the original, old-style Farrell's which used to
exist across the U.S. Those of us who grew up in the 70's especially
remember the early heydey of this fabulous establishment, where birthdays were
celebrated with fire engine sirens and the now legendary "Pig Trough"
dessert. Sound familiar? The fictitious Ziggy's Ice Cream Parlour
shown in Excellent Adventure was definitely a tribute to Farrell's.
The last original Farrell's may have closed but a new dawn may be breaking for the ice cream parlour chain. One of the "new" Farrell's parlours exists in Santa Clarita, California, and word has it another new Farrell's will be opening in Hawaii in the near future! The old Farrell's may be gone but the name lives on and who knows? Maybe one day Farrell's will again spot the U.S. landscape and everyone will be able to experience the thrill of a ridiculously giant sundae brain freeze!
For more information about Farrell's, visit
their official website.
Also this website, The
Farrell's Zone, has lots of great info about the parlours, past, present and
future!

Keanu Promotes The Lake House
(and comments on Bill and Ted)
The excellent personages at Keanuweb referred us to
an excellent article from the New York Daily News in which Keanu promotes
his new film (and second movie with Speed co-star Sandra Bullock)
entitled The Lake House. In the article Keanu talks briefly about
Bill & Ted after the reporter brings up the supposed "Whoa!"
mentality everyone gave him after Bogus Journey came out:
"'Bill & Ted' was a really great film to me personally, and I thought a
really funny film, a successful film," (Keanu) says. "I think
for a few years people got [hung up on it]. But I never got pigeonholed in
that role by my peers - not by directors and actors. Certainly not as much
as from journalists and magazines."
You can read the full article by clicking here. And watch for Keanu to appear on many talk shows and entertainment shows, as he will continue to appear to promote the new movie in the next week or two. In fact, to keep up with all of Keanu's appearances, be sure to check out Keanuweb . . . they have all the latest Keanu news and more! Excellent!

A Piece of Excellent Adventure History in Jeopardy
of Being Demolished?? No way!!!
Many people don't realize that the movie Bill
& Ted's Excellent Adventure was not actually filmed in San Dimas,
Calfornia. It was
actually filmed in and around Phoenix, Tempe and Scottsdale, Arizona. And
the high school used for the movie was Coronado High School in Scottsdale.
This week the Most Marvelous Merlin from Keanuweb
alerted us to this
article appeared which appeared in the city's East
Valley Tribune. According to the article a mosaic, which can briefly
be seen on the outside of "San Dimas High School" in the film, was in
danger of being demolished along with the building it was affixed to (part of a
larger reconstruction project taking place at the school . . . an earlier article
explains the situation). But some former teachers and alumni rallied to
save the mosaic, which was created by students in the early 60's shortly after
the school opened. As a result of their efforts the piece was disassembled
and removed safely and now sits in several 2 x 3 foot pieces in storage to be
reassembled for the school's new auditorium, which is due to be completed in
2007.
The fact that this mosaic made an appearance on film might have contributed partly to its being saved, but credit must be paid to the teachers and students who realized that history is important and worked to save the artwork. Most excellent work, babes and dudes!!

It's An Air Guitar Nation, Most Definitely!
Yet another heads up from Merlin of Keanuweb! Making a splash at the Tribecca Film Festival as well as the SXSW Film Festival is the new documentary film directed by Alexandra Lipsitz called Air Guitar Nation. With the tagline "To air is human . . . " the film covers the year in which the U.S. Air Guitar Championships was born and follows the endeavors of contestants and air guitar afficionados C-Diddy (who performs to Extreme's Play With Me), Bjorn Turoque, Krye Tuff and others as they compete for the ultimate prize . . . representing the United States in overseas competition! We'll bring you more information when this film is officially released! Excellent!!

Bill and Ted Are Tops in the U.S., Too!!!!
If you'll look further down this page
you'll remember that the British named Excellent Adventure #41 in Channel
4's list of the top 50
comedy
films of all time. This weekend the Bravo cable channel in the U.S.
presented their list of the "Top 100 Funniest Movies" and this time
our favorite film did even better! Excellent Adventure came in at
#24! That's two slots higher than Wayne's World (which came in at
#26). The program, which aired in four separate hour-long parts, each
covering 25 films apiece, showcased clips from the top comedy films as well as
comments by actors and directors involved in the specific film as well as other
films on the list. For the Excellent Adventure segment they
featured Diane Franklin, who played Princess Elizabeth in EA. One really
positive aspect of this special was the fact that the people commenting were
actually speaking fondly of the featured films for a change, not running them
down (so typical of American clip shows these days). While no one went
into much detail about the movie, it was still nice to hear so many people speak
fondly of it and also to see it rank so high for a change. This show will
likely continue to air on Bravo for some time, so be sure to catch it to see all
the other hilarious movies which made the list!

Adventure, click here!

Nice Dudes DO Finish First!!
There's
no doubt for fans of the CBS reality series The Amazing Race (which your
webmistress admits is one) this ninth season was the best by far. This was
in part because of one particular team who came to be known as "The
Hippies." BJ and Tyler won everyone over immediately with their
humor, positive attitudes and obvious friendship. Sound somewhat
familiar? Seriously, these two guys embody the spirit of Bill and Ted so
much. They're best friends, they seemingly have endless reserves of energy
and enthusiasm. Throughout the race they were polite and outgoing to
everyone they met . . . they would speak to people in other countries in their
own language when possible and always focused on the positives, even when they
twice came in last in non-elimination rounds, both times having to turn over
their possessions and money to Phil, the host. They even spoke their own
language of sorts . . . their catchphrase "TTOW!" was their power
phrase throughout the race although the true meaning of it seems be known only
between them. As if to prove that "Being Excellent To Each
Other" really is the correct path, BJ and Tyler narrowly beat out their
toughest competition, "Frat Boys" Eric and Jeremy, to take the final
$1 million prize. Unlike Bill and Ted, BJ and Tyler are actually
well-educated bohemians, but like Bill and Ted they soak up knowledge and energy
wherever they go, taking the time to get to know people and share their energy
for adventure with others.
If we had a "Most Excellent" award for those who live by the "Be Excellent to Each Other" and "Party On, Dudes!" creed, these dudes would be winners again. Congratulations, guys, it couldn't have happened to two nicer dudes!!

Our heroes are honored by a dude named Rappy!
If you haven't yet heard of Rappy McRapperson you definitely will, especially since he has chosen to pay tribute to our favorite dudes, Bill and Ted, in his awesome ode to the Two Great Ones, The Bill and Ted Super Song. This is the first single from his new album Fight the Gorlax. Brought to our attention by the outstanding fans on our forums, one of them was nice enough to even post a link to the song itself (we can't legally post it here, but check out our forums under The Music to find out more). The song itself is a really nice tribute to Bill and Ted in Excellent Adventure and their travels through time. We will try to find out more about Rappy and this song and bring it to you in the near future. In the meantime, you may be able to catch the song playing on http://www.whfr.fm's stream Thursdays from 6-9pm ET (thanks to krakn for this info).

Wyld Stallyns Make the Top 50 of All Time!
Our thanks to the most excellent Raymiles for letting us know that Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure has been included in the British television station, Channel 4's, "The 50 Greatest Comedy Films of All Time" hosted by Stephen Fry. The film ranked # 41 in the poll, and clips from interviews with Alex Winter and writers Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson (which we believe were the same as ones previously shown on I Love 1988) were played during the review of the movie. The #1 comedy film of all time? Monty Python's Life of Brian. Wayne's World also made the list at #15.
For more information about this special and
to review the entire list you can go to Manchester Online's site here.
